As a quilt historian and quilt artist, I draw on traditional techniques, styles, patterns, and fabrics for my original woolen quilts. My pieces are created from fabric swatch books, mills I visit and special artist and/or client- owned woolens. I focus on the primary fabric's weave patterns and colors to determine the accompanying colors and hand quilting lines. Combining these with the shared heritage from my Monticello, Iowa grandmother of family history and her button bag, I embellish my pieces with buttons and colored thread.
In addition, as I downsize, I will have some vintage quilts and my published quilt history books available. These woolen quilts are perfect for the Northwest environment, warm and cozy, yet light-weight, and breathable. A suitable compliment to the winter winds and high tides that challenge our quiet island life.
